Privacy Policy

Volplane is a desktop email client for Gmail made by Gökay Ege Süren ("we"). This policy explains what data Volplane accesses, how it is used, where it is stored and when it is shared.

Volplane runs on your computer. We do not operate servers that receive, store or process your email, and we have no access to your Google account or your mail.

Google user data Volplane accesses

When you connect a Google account, Volplane asks Google for these permissions:

  • Basic profile and email address (openid, email, profile) to show which account is connected.
  • Read, compose, send and manage Gmail (gmail.modify) to show your messages, threads, labels, drafts and attachments, and to send mail, save drafts, apply labels, archive, mark read or unread, and move messages to Trash when you ask it to. Volplane does not request permission to permanently delete mail.

How Volplane uses that data

Google user data is used only to provide the email features you use in the app: displaying, searching, organizing, composing and sending your mail, and showing notifications for new mail on your computer. Volplane does not use your data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not use it to train AI or machine-learning models.

Where data is stored

  • Messages, drafts, search indexes, settings and scheduled actions are stored in a local database in the app's data folder on your computer.
  • Google and ChatGPT sign-in credentials are stored on your computer, encrypted with your operating system's keychain.
  • Nothing is uploaded to us. Volplane has no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking.

When data is shared

Volplane talks directly to Google's Gmail API. Your data is shared with one other party only if you choose to use the optional AI features:

  • AI features are off until you connect your own ChatGPT account through OpenAI's Sign in with ChatGPT and separately allow mail sharing in Volplane's Settings.
  • When you then ask for an AI action, such as summarizing a thread or drafting a reply, Volplane sends the text of the messages you selected to OpenAI from your computer, using your ChatGPT plan. Attachments are not sent. Requests are made with OpenAI's store: false option.
  • OpenAI's handling of those requests is governed by OpenAI's terms and your ChatGPT account's data controls. AI output is shown to you as a suggestion and is never sent without your action.

We do not otherwise transfer Google user data to anyone, except where required by law.

Google API Services User Data Policy

Volplane's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your choices and deletion

  • Disconnect in Volplane's Settings deletes the stored Google sign-in credential from your computer.
  • You can revoke Volplane's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and ChatGPT access in your ChatGPT settings.
  • To remove all locally stored mail and settings, quit Volplane and delete its data folder (on macOS, ~/Library/Application Support/Volplane), or uninstall the app.

This website

volplane.me is a static website hosted on Vercel. It uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. Vercel may process standard request logs, such as IP addresses, to serve and protect the site.

Children

Volplane is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
